Surround yourself with the BEST....

By Mauro Porcini
Surround yourself with the best talents, always. Don't fear them, leverage them to make yourself a better YOU and to elevate the output of your performance to levels that just the collective work of a great and diversified team can reach.....
Identify their strengths and nurture them, celebrate them, leverage them....
Empower your talents to express themselves through their work. Give them a vision, grow a culture, cultivate the mindset, build the vibe and then let them do what they are best at....... While that happens, be there for them and with them, physically and often even just emotionally. Connect, interact, direct. Gently, but with resolution....

Your role as a leader is the one of a symphony writer and of an orchestra director.
As a writer, envision the most wonderful melody to play and, together with the leaders working for you and with you, start translating meaningless isolated sounds into meaningful collective harmony....
As a director, conduct your talents, build synergy amongst them and let them play together, leveraging each other, launching each other, reinforcing each other, celebrating the strengths of the individual performances while aiming to the higher goal of a mesmerizing collective result.....

Have the confidence and the humility to give and take, coach and learn, inspire and be inspired....

Give, coach and inspire with your words and with your behaviors. Take, learn and be inspired by listening and observing....

Nurture the "culture of curiosity", observe the world with the eyes of a kid, get excited by things that may be insignificant to many and get moved by the new and unexpected. Because that curiosity, that excitement and those emotions are at the very base of the art of innovation. And they are damned contagious too: by practicing them you are also spreading them like fire within your team and your organization...

While doing all of this, have fun! If you don't have fun, then just change trajectory: life is one, time is limited, you won't serve yourself in the way you deserve if you don't enjoy what you do.  And on top of it, you will end up not serving your team either nor your business: "lack of fun" is the  most dangerous attack to creativity and innovation......
